DUI SATURATION PATROLS AND ROVING DUI PATROLS
DUI checkpoints are a commonly used method used by law enforcement to stop and detain drunk drivers in Orange County and throughout the entire country. DUI Sobriety Checkpoints are located at a fixed location; however, Roving DUI Patrols, or DUI Saturation Patrols, cover a larger geographical area and sometimes involve multiple law enforcement agencies.
In a Roving DUI Patrol or Saturation Patrol, officers comb an entire geographical area looking for DUI drivers. Once the driver is stopped, the DUI Patrol Officers conduct a DUI investigation like any other DUI investigation; however, the officers involved in the Roving DUI Patrol or Saturation Patrol are usually officers who have received specialized training in DUI. Some of the officers have received specialized training in the detection of drivers driving under the influence of drugs, such as Drug Recognition Experts (D.R.E.) or Drug and Alcohol Recognition (D.A.R.).
Law enforcement agencies in Orange County and throughout Southern California receive grant money to conduct DUI Checkpoints and/or Roving DUI Patrols. While DUI Checkpoints rarely capture a large volume of DUI drivers, the DUI Roving Patrols or Saturation Patrols oftentimes do prove successful in locating DUI drivers in Orange County and throughout the country as they cover a greater area and are less likely to be avoided. It is for this reason that DUI Checkpoints are commonly referred to as “publicity” to inform the public of the dangers of drunk driving.Click To Call Set Appointment
